About Us - History of Adelaide Web Developer

Looking for an established web development firm with a proven track record?

Born in 2000, Digital Monkey incorporated as a platform for David Evans' growing multimedia consulting business which began after he graduated in 1997. Rebekah Byrne, Creative Director, has been with us since 2003, and Rahul Trikha, Digital Monkey's Technical Director, came onboard in 2005.

Digital Monkey pioneered the online transformation of traditional media practice. Launched primarily as a service-based company to South Australia's world class arts and entertainment industry, Digital Monkey worked with the Adelaide Festival of Arts, the Adelaide Fringe, State Theatre Company, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Arts SA, as well as peak national arts organisations: Australian Dance Theatre, Arts Projects Australia and The Australia Council. We helped them to take their first steps online.

This led naturally to working for the film and television industries, including high profile luminaries such as film director Rolf de Heer and his company, Vertigo Productions. Digital Monkey provided them with a media rich, animated Flash website, driven by an easy to use content management system way back in 2004. It's used to promote international award winning films including 'The Tracker' and 'Ten Canoes'.

The expertise we gained as a service company has allowed Digital Monkey to successfully move into product development. Our products include serious games for Transport SA's Road Safety Program and the multi-award winning StarPlay (formerly In the Chair) music learning software produced in partnership with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, which has received international acclaim from the creative, IT and business sectors. StarPlay was selected out of hundreds of applications to launch the new version of its award winning Music Performance Software at the prestigious Web2.0 Summit in San Francisco, 2006, and was the hottest ticket in Silicon Valley.

More recently, Digital Monkey has brought on a full-time Project Manager, Stuart Gravestock, who left Business SA to join our team in 2008, and Technical Support Officer, Andrew Keynes, also starting in 2008 to deliver increased support for our customers.

Our success stories in the arts and entertainment sector have led to an expansion in our client base, which now includes small businesses and the wine industry. Digital Monkey now manages several wine industry sites, including a major online community portal for the Riverland Winegrape Growers Association, as well as a long list of South Australian small businesses.

Over the years, we've developed a cost effective, proven and flexible development methodology, which allows us to partner with you to develop your online presence to support your overall marketing and development strategy.
