Want to make sure people can find you easily on the web?

The fastest and easiest way to do this is to get your domain name registration right. When trying to find you on the internet, most people will simply type your name or product name into either the address or search bar on their browser. If your domain name is the same, it's highly likely that they'll arrive at your site.

For Australians, at a minimum, we recommend that you register .com.au and, if you're a not-for-profit, .org.au. It is only possible to register a .au domain name if it matches a registered company, business or ABN, so having a .au domain name gives you credibility online when dealing with other Australians.

If you plan to communicate outside of Australia, it's probably a good idea to try to register a .com domain name. This will give you a more global presence online. It's much harder to get .com but having an abbreviation or extension of your name that clearly communicates what you do is an excellent second choice; it can also help you get noticed by search engines. For example if you're a wine producer, you might try to register .com for each of your wines.
